1 .Give each student a copy of this chart. have them note the lines dividing the keys. Explain that the lines are to show which keys are hit using the same finger. 2. Following the color coding listed on the paper copy of the keyboard, have the students color in: *Home row A S D F J K L ; *Space bar *Return/enter 3. Explain that they will be coloring the keys each time a new set is introduced. 4. Review the proper techniques for successful keyboarding. 5. Have a student sit at the computer to model this correct behavior. (Refer to Webactivity 1 on Ergonomics & Introduction to this curriculum for correct modeling behaviors.) Use this sheet to provide students with the opportunity to practice finger positions when away from the computer keyboard. Stress that fingers should always be on the Home Row Keys. This worksheet provides students with another opportunity to use color-coding for the keys. Given a blank keyboard students will fill in Home Row, Caps lock, Enter and both Shift keys. *Worksheet should be completed away from keyboard. This sheet should be given to students once they've had practice in keyboarding. in addition to reviewing the keys used in the above worrksheet they will now fill in additional selected keys that they've practiced.*Worksheet should be completed away from keyboard. Students will trace their hands and label their fingernails with the Home Row Keys they will also answer questions related to keyboarding that are found on this sheet. Information on special function keys are presented on this sheet. This sheet shows how the fingers should be curved. It also show a keyboard that has been color coded along with matching color coded fingers. Sheets may be adapted as needed.
